Birmingham, Alabama – The Birmingham City Council today unanimously approved a resolution setting a Show-Cause Hearing regarding the issue of revoking the business license(s) of Good Friends Chinese and Seafood Restaurant, located at 1720 Dennison Avenue. The Show-Cause Hearing will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 9:30 a.m., during the regular meeting of the Birmingham City Council.
Police and witnesses say the owner of Good Friends recently fired a gunshot at a customer who had complained after finding a cockroach in her eggroll.
“We would like to hear from the public regarding this incident, and allow the owner to come before us and address whatever issues exist relating to this matter,” said Councilor Steven Hoyt, Chair of the Public Safety Committee.
A Public Hearing regarding the issue will be held at the next Public Safety Committee Meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2014, 4:00 p.m., in the council chambers.
The public will be allowed to speak at both hearings.
The city council routinely holds show-caused hearings to gather more information about a matter before deciding whether or not to revoke a business’s license.
West End residents have frequently protested outside of the restaurant since the incident was reported on Feb. 6. Councilwoman Sheila Tyson, who represents District 6 where the restaurant is located, has also expressed concerns about the incident and conditions of the restaurant located on a busy corner in West End.
