BIRMINGHAM, AL-There is another reason to be proud of the City of Birmingham. The Alabama chapter of the American Planning Association is honoring the City of Birmingham for the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. Council President Pro-Tempore Jay Roberson who serves as the chairman of Birmingham’s Planning and Zoning Committee, nominated the city for the association’s “Outstanding Planning Award for a Comprehensive Plan.”
“I would like to thank all of the people who were involved in the City of Birmingham earning this award, including the Mayor, the City Council and the Planning, Engineering and Permits Department,” Roberson said. “This is a very outstanding accomplishment and recognition for the city as we look forward to providing a clear vision of the kind of communities we desire in Birmingham.”
Mr. Andre Bittas, head of the city’s Planning, Engineering and Permits Department, accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the city. The Comprehensive Plan was endorsed by The Birmingham City Council in March and it will be the city’s first full policy and strategic framework plan since 1961. The planning process will establish a set of goals, policies, strategies and implementation actions to achieve the vision for Birmingham’s future.
