BIRMINGHAM, AL- Just in time for the Father’s Day weekend, Birmingham City Councilor Steven Hoyt is asking men to join him in celebrating all that fathers do. The third annual “Man Up” breakfast will be held Saturday, June 14th from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Atlantis Event Center located at 4016 Avenue I in Ensley. The event is free and open to the public.
“It is my hope that the community will come out and show the city that we as men are dedicated to being great fathers,” Councilor Hoyt said. “Father figures play a pivotal role not just in the life of their own children, but in the lives of everyone that they mentor too.”
The breakfast will not only pay tribute to fathers but will also recognize young men who are active in their communities. A panel of speakers will include community leaders such as Dr. Kurt Clark, pastor of Sardis Baptist Church, Tony Smoke, vice-president of Marketing for Alabama Power, and Terry Smiley, Birmingham operations manager for Energen Corporation.
“Men like Dr. Clark, Mr. Smoke, and Mr. Smiley are the kind of positive role models that our youth need to hear from,” said Councilor Hoyt. “These men possess the type of values and morals that we hope to instill in our young men.”
In addition to gaining insight from the panel of speakers, attendees will also have the opportunity to network and fellowship with others during this free community event.
