BIRMINGHAM, AL—Council President Johnathan Austin makes it his duty to abide by the new paradigm of collaboration and communication not only with the Birmingham City Council and Mayor’s Administration but also with the Jefferson County Commission, Birmingham Board of Education, and area legislators. To further this vision, the Birmingham City Council is hosting a lunch meeting with the Birmingham Board of Education to discuss the current state and direction of the Birmingham City Schools on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Regions Bank in the Executive Dining Room.
“We want to make sure that as a council we are engaged in all aspects of development for our city,” Council President Austin said. “It is very important that are continually updated on areas such as the state of our school system.”
President of the Birmingham Board of Education Randall Woodfin reiterated the sentiments of the late Council President Maxine Herring Parker in her efforts to “have all lanes moving in the same direction.”
“It’s important that the Mayor, Birmingham City Council and Birmingham Board of Education sit down and have a conversation regarding the direction the school board is heading that says a lot about the progress we are making,” President Woodfin said. “We were all elected on the same day and it’s important that we collaborate because we all represent the same family, which are the constituents of the City of Birmingham.”
