16th-stThe memory of Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson, Addie Mae Collins and Carol McNair was honored on the final day of Empowerment Week. At 10:22 on September 15th 1963 … the four little girls lost their lives when a bomb exploded at the 16th Street Baptist Church. The crime galvanized the nation and the civil rights movement. District six councilor Sheila Tyson says Empowerment Week is meant to help teach a new generation about this historic event. Pastor Author Price says every year they will celebrate these lost lives with or without an audience, but events like this help the world to never forget.
