Lockway Gardens safety concerns has Councilor Sheila Tyson requesting demolition of abandoned apartments
District six Councilor Sheila Tyson says Lockway Gardens is a blight on Birmingham’s west side. She is asking for funding by the city council to have it demolished. Councilor Tyson says residents started abandoning Lockway Gardens in 2008 before it was officially closed down the next year. Neighbors say this massive complex is unsettling with more than two dozen buildings sit empty. The buildings have been gutted and many buildings are occupied by homeless residents or drug dealers. She says it will take several hundred thousand dollars to demolish the condemned buildings. For more information go to www.birminghamalcitycouncil.org or WATCH THE VIDEO.
