PRESS RELEASE Saturday April 18, 2015

BIRMINGHAM, AL– According to JumpStart: Making the Case for Financial Literacy, 65.1% of Americans consider themselves “very” or “highly” knowledgeable when it comes to personal finance. However, a majority of Americans (52%) do not regularly review their credit report each year and 23% of Americans have never reviewed their report.
Councilor Sheila Tyson believes in empowering the community to excel in more ways than one, especially through education and hands-on workshop forums. Recently she announced that she has partnered with Christian Service Mission (CSM) and Vulcan Legal Group (VLG) to sponsor a series of Financial Freedom Workshops in West Birmingham.
“The response to our Financial Freedom Workshops has been overwhelming,” said Councilor Tyson. “It has shown me that there is an undeniable need for financial literacy training in my district and in the City of Birmingham as a whole. I’m excited to partner with other organizations to spread this information in my community. Educating citizens is key to moving this city forward and I couldn’t be more honored to be a part of that movement”
As financial obstacles continue to grow, financial literacy proves to be an important tool that society can use to build financially healthy communities and establish economic stability in our country ensuring the long-term success of our families, all while slowly eliminating the poverty disparity that plagues so many communities.
Due to the high demand, Councilor Tyson has worked with CSM and VLG to schedule 3 additional workshops. Participants are asked to RSVP to the event by sending an email to email@example.com or by leaving a message at 205-578-2396.
