“Unity through fashion” the key ideal for the fifth annual “Birmingham Fashion Week”
Magic City is on beat for the Fifth Annual Birmingham Fashion Week taking place May 7th through 9th at Pepper Place. Birmingham native Heidi Elnora is realizing her vision of what originally began as a fun idea with one of her dear friends. Now the signature event has spawned into a fashion melee of exclusive southern flair all while setting the stage for future generations.
“It was just something that I wanted to do,” said Elnora. “I’d done runway shows in Birmingham before and the response was great.
Everyone always says that music is the language that everyone can understand, well the same thing goes for fashion, everyone can relate to fashion because we all wear clothes.”
Having founded Birmingham Fashion Week on the ideals of bringing unity to our community through fashion, Elnora is happy to bring more diverse events to the City of Birmingham in hopes that the event will continue to bring cultures together, all while creating atmospheres that directly influences youth and ultimately change the persona of the Southern fashion industry.
“What’s awesome about our event is that it allows everyone to come as you are and flaunt your fashion sense,” Elnora said. “It brings different fashion professionals from all over the state and the southeast together for the opportunity to exchange ideas, network and bond. It’s a very diverse crowd which is cool because we are speaking the same language which is fashion.”
Birmingham City Council President Johnathan Austin plans to attend Birmingham Fashion Week and said he’s happy to see the array of events being showcased in Birmingham and hopes that visitors attending will get a true taste of what our great city has to offer.
“Birmingham is comprised of so many different talents and industries that many aren’t aware of,” Council President Austin said. “It takes industry leaders such as Heidi working together with the city to showcase all of the many hidden talents that rest within our great city.”
Birmingham Fashion Week will collaborate the styles of local and national boutiques and designers, including renowned Project Runway alum Anthony Ryan. Audiences will pack the house to promote and inspire ideals in rising stars, as artists explore creative talents.
“We all have our history, but when you come to Birmingham Fashion Week we are truly united for the love of fashion,” said Elnora. “It’s the most beautiful thing especially with our city because there are no boundaries and no rules. We are all just there having fun for the good of Birmingham.”
