BIRMINGHAM, AL- Pratt City has always been a hidden jewel and staple of progress in the western area of Birmingham neighborhoods. When the devastating April 27th tornadoes of 2011 struck the core of Pratt City and surrounding communities, residents were challenged with shaking the memory of the anguish it caused, all while working collectively with leaders to revitalize and rebuild what was erased.
On Monday, June 15th Councilor Marcus Lundy, Jr. will continue those revitalization efforts by inviting residents and property owners of the Pratt City community to take part in a discussion around the next steps for the area. The meeting will take place from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm at the Pratt City Library, located at 509 Dugan Avenue.
“As we work towards continued transparency in our communities, it is imperative that we hold meetings like these, to ensure that we keep them at the forefront of the proposed plans,” Councilor Lundy said. “When citizens who have a vested interest in their communities show up and take part in the rebuilding and surge of growth, you have true catalysts of change. I know without a doubt that these type think-tanks are just what our communities need.”
Following the planning meeting for the Pratt area, Councilor Lundy will work with the Mayor’s Office of Community Development to implement suggestions and strategies that includes the collective input of the Pratt City community.
“We’re keeping our momentum high for change not just in the Pratt City area, but for District 9 as a whole,” Councilor Lundy said. “Our citizens are the force that move Birmingham forward, and we as city leaders are just here to carry the torch.”
