BIRMINGHAM, AL– As Birmingham City Councilors look to vote on a new fiscal year budget, one topic at the head of their agenda are the needs for students within their school system. To get a better understanding of where funding is most crucial councilors will sit down with the new superintendent as well as school board leaders to discuss ways in which they can help as students prepare for a new school year. School board members have specifically discussed their need for funding items such as of community schools, and police officers for athletic events. Councilors hope that their discussion with school board members will provide them with more insight on why additional funding is needed.
“The education of our students within Birmingham City Schools is a top priority for my colleagues and I and we are committed at looking at ways that we can continually enhance the educational experience for our students,” Council President Johnathan Austin said. “We look forward to continuing our dialogue with school board members to ensure that their needs are addressed ”
