BIRMINGHAM, AL – Are you interested in learning more about what’s next for the Northeastern side of Birmingham, specifically as it relates to jobs and economic development? If so then this is an event that you do not want to miss. Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales is inviting the public to attend the Northeastern Area Framework Planning Meeting that will take place TODAY at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church located at 980 Huffman Road, Birmingham, AL 35215. During the meeting residents will have the opportunity to voice their concerns on what they would like to see for the future of their communities.

“This is an exciting time for the Northeastern area as we begin to layout the framework for development in Roebuck-South, Eastlake, Huffman, East Pinson Valley, and Cahaba communities,” Councilor Scales said. “During this meeting residents will be able to collaborate with city leaders to create a plan that will be a reflection of their vision for each area; we want each community to flourish into new heights in the next coming years, and this meeting is where it all begins.”

The area is already seeing a boom in economic development as one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, Kamtek recently announced that they are expanding their existing Valley East plant by building a new $450 million facility. The expansion will bring hundreds of additional jobs to the area.

“This is just the beginning of what is to come for District 1,” Councilor Scales said. “The opportunities for growth in this area are endless and we plan to capitalize on each area of this district.”
