BIRMINGHAM, AL – On the heels of the next legislative session, Birmingham City Councilors will be joining area legislators to discuss items that they would like to see on the next legislative agenda. This annual meeting will take place TODAY from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at City Hall in Conference Rooms D & E. Expected participants include, area legislators, members of the Birmingham Water Works Board, the Birmingham Board of Education, the Birmingham Transit Authority, the Birmingham Airport Authority, and the Jefferson County Commission. This joint meeting will allow attendees to collectively collaborate with Councilors to prepare the legislative agenda. Council President Johnathan Austin has been adamant about consistently holding meetings of this nature to ensure that proper planning is put in place ahead of the legislative session.

“As president of the City Council I feel that it is very important to coordinate a meeting of this nature, so that my colleagues and I have the opportunity to meet with other elected officials to share our ideas for the 2016 Legislative session,” President Austin said. “Each year we set out a list of goals that we would like to see accomplished, and this meeting allows us time to see if we are on track to achieve those goals.”

The last legislative agenda meeting was held in January of this year. Council President Austin is certain that consistently holding these meetings, will continue to build the momentum for area leaders’ push to get bills passed that are imperative to all communities within and around the City of Birmingham. Senate Majority Leader Senator J. T. “Jabo” Waggoner agrees and he also expressed his sentiments about all leadership and parties coming together for the sake of the region.

“The Senate delegation is always pleased to meet with the City of Birmingham and its leadership,” Waggoner said. “In our region, as Birmingham prospers so does the rest of the region.”
