BIRMINGHAM, AL – Your Tuesday commute into downtown may involve some new faces as Birmingham City Councilors plan to Zyp into City Hall for Tuesday’s Council Meeting. Councilors will meet at 8:00 a.m. at Memorial Park located at 524 6th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35205. The efforts to Zyp into City Hall are apart of Councilor Sheila Tyson’s “Riding with Sheila” initiative.
“I have really enjoyed the insight that I’ve gained from residents during this initiative and I’m looking forward to being able to reach an entire new audience who bikes to work,” Councilor Tyson. “The opportunity to be able to go out into the community and reach people where they are will not only be insightful but it will be a fun event for the Council to enjoy collectively.”
With 25 stations open, Zyp is outperforming estimates made based on having 40 stations in operation, that’s according to AL.com. Nearly 6,300 members are registered within the Zyp system and some of those have been occasional 24-hour users. Additionally more than 550 annual people have become annual members in just six months, exceeding the projection of 670 in the first year.
You may have heard of “Shaking With Sheila” but now Birmingham City Councilor Sheila Tyson has a new initiative underway to engage the public. On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 Councilor Tyson will kick off “Riding With Sheila.” As a part of the initiative Councilor Tyson will take a Max Bus ride to City Council Meeting one Tuesday out of the month, and she’s inviting you to join her. Councilor Tyson will catch the bus at the Dennison & M.L. King bus stop at 8:40 a.m. The route will continue with several stops and conclude with a drop off at Central Station. From there Councilor Tyson will walk over to City Hall for Council Meeting.
