Birmingham City Council Mourns the Loss of a Former Councilman

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Birmingham City Councilors are offering their condolences to a former councilman. Former District 9 Councilor Leroy Bandy who served on the council from 1997 to 2001 passed away on Tuesday. Current District 9 Councilor Marcus Lundy said Bandy was a servant at heart and his death is a huge loss to the entire city.
“Mr. Bandy had a passion not just for District 9, but for Birmingham as a whole. He was committed to doing his part to improve our city, and his leadership will definitely be missed,” Councilor Lundy said. “The legacy that Mr. Bandy leaves behind stretches far and wide, and this city is a better city because of his work.”
Mr. Bandy was a longtime leader in Pratt City politics, serving 15 years as president of the Central Pratt neighborhood and four years as president of the Pratt community before joining the Council in the 1997 election. Mr. Bandy served on that City Council along with Mayor Bell, a council member at the time, and current Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown.
Funeral services for Mr. Bandy will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 12 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, Pratt City located at 415 Avenue G Birmingham, AL 35214. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8th from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home located 1714 Avenue F in Ensley.
