BIRMINGHAM, AL– In an effort to increase engagement with the citizens concerning issues that affect their neighborhoods, the Birmingham City Council will hold a second offsite meeting on TODAY at Loveman Village located at 248 1st Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211. The meeting will take place inside the gymnasium. Pre-Council will begin at 5:30 p.m., with Council Meeting immediately following at 6 p.m. Council President Johnathan Austin says he looks forward to being able to reach more citizens through a meeting that is more convenient for the general public.
“Taking the meetings to our communities is an opportunity for us as a Council to present the citizen’s business directly to the citizens,” President Austin said. “We’re going to do it systematically and get around to all nine districts that the Council has been elected to serve. I think it’s important to let the citizens know how we conduct their business and then give them an opportunity to speak on any issues that may affect them.
People who wish to speak at the Council Meeting must sign-up on the speakers list by 5:45 p.m. at Loveman Village. Speakers can begin signing up at 5 p.m. The Council Meeting will be streamed on the Council’s live streaming channel on Ustream. To access that channel, please CLICK HERE. The television broadcast of the Council Meeting will be shown Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on Channel 340 with Brighthouse.
