BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL LEADER & NEIGHBORHOOD MEMBERS VISIT SPARTANBURG FOR FACT FINDING TOUR ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
(BIRMINGHAM, AL) Nearly 40 neighborhood coalition members, community advocates, City of Birmingham Department heads, elected officials, EPA staff and members of the media from Birmingham, Alabama will convene in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Thursday and Friday, January 23-24, for a Fact Finding Visit.
The tour is being coordinated by Birmingham City Councilor William Parker whose North Birmingham community leaders are seeking to revitalize the contaminated areas. The group will kick off its tour at 6 p.m. on Thursday and end at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Attendees will participate in capacity building workshops and tours to learn how the stakeholders in Spartanburg organized around their environmental and quality of life issues to secure community empowerment and to address community priorities and revitalization goals.
Four of Birmingham neighborhoods are included in the Superfund site under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. They are the Fairmont, Collegeville, Harriman Park and North Birmingham.
