BIRMINGHAM, AL- Birmingham City Councilors will meet today to hear from the public about the 2015 budget. The annual hearing for the City of Birmingham will begin at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Both the council and mayor have committed to working together on the budget to ensure that a balanced budget is in place by July 1, 2014.
“I believe the council is moving forward with prioritizing the needs of the citizens,” Council President Johnathan Austin said. “We are all focused on looking at each element of the budget to make sure that it is fair and balanced.”
Councilor Valerie Abbott who serves as chair of the Budget and Finance Committee is also hopeful that the anticipated early balanced budget will be a turn in a new direction for everyone.
“The mayor and the city council are determined to get this budget passed in the most amicable way,” Councilor Abbott said. “After all, this is the only time the City Council and the citizens have an opportunity to have input on what goes in the budget.”
