BIRMINGHAM, AL- Fresh off of a trip to the Clinton Global Initiative America, where a commitment was made to empower the North Birmingham community through neighborhood renewal, Birmingham City Councilor William Parker is ready to move forward with that commitment. During his trip to CGI America, Councilor Parker was able to speak with former President Bill Clinton along with community leaders from around the country to gain insight on ideas that have been put in place to improve communities.
In a blog post that has been published on the Clinton Foundation website, Councilor Parker writes, “Throughout the meeting, I was able to identify potential collaborators to achieve these goals in addition to our established partners, which include: the EPA, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board, the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, and the Alabama Department of Transportation.” Councilor Parker also added, “I learned of a green and healthy home initiative, whose model could be applied to our affordable housing venture—generating real economic impact for Collegeville residents because low-income households typically spend over three times more of their total income on energy costs than other households.”
