PRESS RELEASE Thursday, September 25, 2014

BIRMINGHAM, AL– It is reported that every two minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. Alarmingly, there are nearly 3 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. alone. With statistics such as these on the rise and closely affecting many citizens, Birmingham City Councilor Sheila Tyson will help aid the fight for awareness and “STRUT” for a cause at the 2014 Breast Cancer Awareness Sistah Strut Race. The race will take place Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m., at Legion Field located at 400 Graymont Avenue West.
“I wholeheartedly believe events like Sistah Strut are desperately needed in our communities,” Councilor Tyson said. “It is our responsibility to continually spread awareness and educate citizens on the dangers of not being informed; I can only imagine how many lives we can help save through education alone.”
Although Sistah Strut is a fundraiser to aid in Breast Cancer research and awareness for early testing, it is also a way for many citizens to come together with kindred spirits to share heartfelt life experiences. Sistah Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, heightens awareness of breast cancer, and promotes early detection and the search for a cure.
Registration fees for the race are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 the day of the event. 5K Run participants must register to receive awards!
