City Opens Warming Station
Hundreds of people are taking shelter from the frigid outdoors at Birmingham’s Boutwell Auditorium, as city leaders prompt those in need to get out of the cold. Councilor Valerie Abbott says she is thankful cots, blankets and food are available for folks who need shelter. Birmingham police and firefighters are also patrolling abandoned buildings encouraging people to come to the Boutwell. Don Lupo, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Citizens Assistance, says donated items are a great effort between the city and residents. The shelter opens Friday Nov. 14, Monday Nov. 17 and Tuesday Nov. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.. It will be closed tomorrow and Sunday.
