Wenonah girls win 5A basketball state title, Woodlawn/Ramsay boys also part of final four in Birmingham that boosted the local economy
It may have been cold and icy outside, but the winter weather our area experienced did little to cool down attendance that topped 60,000 at the Alabama high school final four playoffs in Birmingham. Woodlawn made it to 6A final four for the first time since 2000, losing in the semi’s to Carver-Montgomery 54-42, while Ramsay had a great run and would make it to the 5A finals but ultimately lose a close one to JO Johnson 56-52. Alone at the top this year, with intense full court pressure and immeasurable talent, Wenonah girls. They won the 5A state title for the second year in a row, 49-29 over Brewbaker Tech. A great weekend for students and businesses as mother nature chipped in to help.
