BIRMINGHAM, AL- Dr. A.G. Gaston lived by the motto “Find a need and fill it.” Therefore, it is no surprise that decades later his legacy has shaped the youth and young adults through one of his many enterprises, the A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls club. To honor the legacy and rich heritage that has shaped the lives of citizens near and far, former United States Secretary of State, and honorable native of Birmingham, Alabama Dr. Condoleezza Rice will serve as the featured speaker and luncheon co-chair at the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club 48th Anniversary Celebration. The annual celebration will take place, Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center at 3600 Grandview Parkway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As we celebrate 48 years of service to the community we are honored that Dr. Rice will join us to take part in this occasion,” said Frank Adams, president of the A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls club. “Dr. Rice has been a very strong advocate for our program, and we appreciate her leadership both locally and nationally.”

Situated in the heart of District 7, the A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club serves youth in surrounding communities daily by offering a variety of programs including constructive educational programs, tutoring on multiple subjects and extracurricular activities. Council President Pro Tem Jay Roberson said it is an honor to welcome Dr. Condoleezza Rice back to Birmingham as the guest speaker for the annual event.

“Dr. Rice is an exceptional role model for our generation as her values mimic the lessons that leaders such as Dr. A.G. Gaston fought to instill in our children so many years ago,” Councilor Roberson said. “Keeping our youth engaged and developing our communities through consistent education is what has kept Dr. Gaston’s legacy strong through many generations, and I’m excited about the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding youth that benefit from such a great organization. “

Proceeds from the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club 48th Anniversary Celebration will fund the advancement of education through a variety of age-specific programs that will develop critical life skills and post-secondary opportunities for more than 1,200 children that are served each year.
