Council & Uber to Meet & Discuss Steering Rideshares into the Magic City
The hopes of seeing rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft in the Magic City are getting closer to becoming a reality. Uber officials have been invited to the monthly meeting to talk about their needs as it relates to the city’s Transportation Ordinance Code. Councilors have been outspoken that they want companies like Uber & Lyft here, but part of their job is the safety of riders. The sticking points have been associated with insurance and background checks. Uber officials have demonstrated that their company guidelines may address those concerns and the hope is to find middle ground. While the Transportation Code is the big topic for today’s Committee of the Whole, Councilors will also discuss the Region’s settlement, the weed abatement and demolition schedule, and they’re expecting to receive an update on the land bank authority. All this more coming up during today’s Committee of the Whole meeting at 4 p.m. in city hall.
