PRESS RELEASE Friday, September 25, 2015

BIRMINGHAM, AL– It is reported that every two minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. Alarmingly, there are nearly 3 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. alone. With statistics such as these on the rise and closely affecting many citizens, Birmingham City Councilor Sheila Tyson will help aid the fight for awareness and “STRUT” for a cause at the 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness Sistah Strut Race. The race will take place Saturday, Sept. 26th from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m., at Legion Field located at 400 Graymont Avenue West.
“This is an event that I look forward to each year because it helps to bring awareness to an issue that affects so many women,” Councilor Tyson said. “It’s important that as a community we come together continuously to provide fun, educational events that will help to increase awareness on different initiatives that are in place to address this growing disease.”
Although Sistah Strut is a fundraiser to aid in Breast Cancer research and awareness for early testing, it is also a way for many citizens to come together with kindred spirits to share heartfelt life experiences. Sistah Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, heightens awareness of breast cancer, and promotes early detection and the search for a cure.
Registration fees for the race are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 the day of the event. 5K Run participants must register to receive awards!
