BIRMINGHAM, AL – Birmingham residents here is your chance to make your voice heard. A second planning meeting will held tonight to discuss options for the Birmingham Sidewalk Master Plan. The meeting will take place at the Birmingham Crossplex, located at 2331 Bessemer Rd. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will run until 7:30. During these public engagement meetings, representatives from the Department of Planning, Engineering, and Permits will request input from users of Birmingham’s sidewalk systems to determine areas of greatest need, community preferences, and public concerns and issues.
“I am strongly encouraging residents to get involved in this process by attending these public engagement meetings to ensure that their suggestions are included in the plan,” Councilor Steven Hoyt said. “We need input from the public to help identify any missed destinations and to prioritize those destinations by the necessity of walking facilities to reach them.”
The next phase in the planning process will involve the creation of the Master Sidewalk Plan, which will identify locations where sidewalks are needed and/or where repairs or replacements are recommended, along with typical section drawings that can be generally applied where certain conditions exist. The Plan will be organized according to the Framework Areas already established by the City in its Imagine Birmingham planning process. Ultimately, the Plan will be presented to both the Planning Commission and the City Council.
