BIRMINGHAM, AL – Where does Birmingham currently stand, and how to do we continue to excel at the next level? That’s the question that Birmingham City Council wants you to answer during a special panel discussion taking place at 6 p.m. tonight at 16th Street Baptist Church. During the event, titled: “The Past, Present, and Future,” the panel will discuss ideas that will help Birmingham continue to grow as a city.
“This event will allow us to celebrate the past because it is so vital that we stand on a firm foundation, a foundation prepared for us by the many trailblazers who paved for the way for our city,” Council President Johnathan Austin said. “It will also allow us to celebrate the present by acknowledging how this city has grown. Most importantly it will allow us to look at ways that we can continue to build on that momentum to secure Birmingham’s future.”
The panel will include Birmingham City Councilors as well past leaders (in politics, in education, and in the community), and our future leaders (students from the area high schools). Tonight’s event will conclude a month of events that the Council initiated to learn more about Birmingham’s future during Black History Month. A new “Cooking With the Council” series premiered this month in which Councilors visited nursing homes and rehabilitation centers to learn from some of our senior citizens about their part in creating Birmingham’s past, and what they would like to see for the future.
