Looking for a Job: Several Career Advancement Workshops Taking Place This Month

As the fall season approaches, searching for a career can be quite the task. For those that desire better career advancement and opportunities, be sure to mark your calendars for several job seeker workshops and classes taking place at the Birmingham Public Library during the month of September. The series will include powerful workshops and resume clinics geared to help the aspiring professional reset their career course as well as trainings on mastering interview techniques. The Job Readiness workshops and resume clinic descriptions are listed below:

* Job Readiness Resume Clinic, Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Central Library, Linn Henley Research Building, 4th floor – Regional Library Computer Center, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL

This event is free and being coordinated by the New Rising Star Community Support Corporation. Representatives from New Rising Star will be on hand at the clinic to provide one-on-one advice on crafting both the content and format of your resume. All attendees can expect to walk away from the clinic with an actual completed resume in hand.

* Hiring Process for Jefferson County, Monday, Sept. 12, 2:15-3:15 p.m., Linn Henley Research Building, 4th floor -Regional Library Computer Center, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL

Representatives from the Jefferson County Human Resources Department will explain the process of getting hired for Jefferson County jobs as well as provide valuable information on how to master pre-employment tests including the oral interviews used by Jefferson County as well as other types of employment tests

* Birmingham Public Library Database: Career Cruising, Monday, Sept. 12, 3:30 -4:30 p.m., Linn Henley Research Building, 4th floor – Regional Library Computer Center, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL

Business, Science and Technology staff will provide tools on how to make the most of the library’s Career Cruising database. Career Cruising features career guidance information, a directory of schools, financial aid information, a job search guide, skills assessment tools, and a variety of employment resources.

* Job Searching Essentials Presented by the Jefferson County Department of Human Resources JOBS Program, Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, 1 p.m., Inglenook Branch Library, 4100 40th Terrace North, Birmingham.

This workshop will give job seekers information that can boost their job search and lead to employment. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. To register, call (205) 849-8739.
