Birmingham – As fall sets in, here’s your chance to enjoy the beautiful weather at a great event for the entire family! Birmingham City Council President Johnathan F. Austin will kick off the 75th annual Magic City Classic by hosting the 7th annual District 5 Fun Day. The event will take place TODAY, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Railroad Park. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy tunes from international star Jessy J, as well as Yarbrough & Company. While the adults will be able to enjoy great music, children will have the chance to enjoy thrilling carnival rides, face painting, and other interactive activities. Attendees will also have the opportunity to try out some of the local food trucks. The excitement doesn’t stop there, as guests will have the chance to win tons of gifts and prizes, and best of all it’s FREE! This event will be one of the biggest events in the city bringing thousands to Railroad Park so you don’t want to miss out.

“As an elected leader, it is important to me to provide our residents with fun, family friendly events that allow them to engage with other constituents all while enjoying some of our city’s most prized assets,” President Austin said. “This year as we prepare to celebrate 75 years of the historic Magic City Classic, I’m looking forward to bringing so many families together to celebrate what makes Birmingham, the “Magic City.”

In addition to the free Fun Day, President Austin will follow-up the event by hosting an educational workshop for students who are members of the Birmingham High School Bands. The workshop will take place Monday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. at the historic Carver Theatre, and will feature headline performer from the 2016 Fun Day, Jessy J.
