Councilor Sheila Tyson continues to push for solutions to ongoing problem of trains blocking intersections in neighborhoods
PRESS RELEASE Monday, July 16, 2018

BIRMINGHAM, AL— A train has been blocking intersections in West End since Sunday and has still not moved as of Monday afternoon. The location of the train is near Pearson Ave.
Among the intersections that are currently blocked, 15thAve. SW and 15thPl. SW are currently inaccessible to motorists. This is just the latest instance of an ongoing issue in Birmingham. Over the last several weeks, numerous trains have blocked intersections for extended periods of time throughout the city.
Councilor Sheila Tyson has been an advocate for safe railroad crossings, not just in her district, but citywide. “This is a public safety issue,” Tyson said. “You have kids crossing these tracks with trains on them because they have to go to school or to the pool.”
In an effort to shine a light on this ongoing situation, Tyson will be available to speak with the media.
