Council President Pro Tem Wardine Alexander, who chairs the Utilities and Technology Committee, has scheduled a special called meeting on Wednesday, November 13 to discuss the potential Birmingham Water Works Board rate increase.
The BWWB will be holding a public hearing on Thursday, November 14, to allow residents a chance to voice their opinion on the matter, a move that has prompted Alexander to call a meeting.
“As chair of this committee, I believe it’s my duty to make sure residents are aware of possible changes to their utilities bill,” Alexander said on Tuesday. “It is very important that residents attend this meeting because the result of this public hearing can have a major bearing on whether or not this rate increase takes place.”
The Utilities Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, in Conference Room C, located on the third floor of City Hall. The potential rate increase is the only item on the agenda.
The BWWB’s public hearing to discuss the matter is scheduled for Thursday, November 14, at 5:30 p.m., at the principal office of the Board, 3600 First Avenue North (in the Boardroom on the second floor).
