Tomorrow, Birmingham City Council President William Parker will once again be partnering with District 9 Councilor John Hilliard and Rev. Harold Bass of Olivet Monumental Baptist Church for a fresh food and mask giveaway. This is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to providing residents with access to fresh food and face masks.
The event will be happening on Thursday, July 23rd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Olivet Monumental Baptist Church. Fresh produce and milk will be available, along with a free supply of masks.
“”We have to be vigilant about educating people on the importance of wearing face coverings and social distancing,” Council President William Parker maintained. “We also have to keep up the efforts to provide our citizens with the means to overcome this crisis. COVID-19 is still a major threat in our community.”
Councilor John Hilliard said he’s been encouraged by the cooperation he’s witnessed throughout Birmingham during the crisis.
“This has been an unprecedented time for all of us,” Hilliard said. “But it has affirmed my belief that in the face of adversity, Birmingham responds in a big way. There are people in every corner of this city helping one another, providing food, clothing and protective face coverings. It’s imperative that we continue to hold one another up during this difficult time. There are better days ahead.”
