Tomorrow, Thursday July 30th, Council President William Parker will be partnering with District 9 Councilor John Hilliard, Reverend Harold Bass, and Circuit Clerk Jackie Smith for a fresh food and mask giveaway.
The event will be happening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Olivet Monumental Baptist Church. Fresh produce and milk will be available, along with a free supply of masks.
“The Birmingham City Council is committed to providing our residents with education about the COVID-19 pandemic and access to free produce, milk, and face masks,” Council President William Parker said. “Giveaways like this are one aspect of that effort, but we also want to remind people of the importance of wearing face coverings and social distancing.”
Councilor John Hilliard said he’s been encouraged by the cooperation he’s witnessed throughout Birmingham during the crisis.
“This has been an unprecedented time for all of us,” Hilliard said. “But it has affirmed my belief that in the face of adversity, Birmingham responds in a big way. There are people in ever corner of this city helping one another, providing food, clothing and protective face coverings. It’s imperative that we continue to hold one another up during this difficult time. There are better days ahead.”
