In celebration of Birmingham Restaurant Week, members of the City Council will be at the newly-opened Michael’s Steaks and Seafood at 4 p.m. this Friday.
The restaurant recently opened their new location on top of the Negro Southern League Museum.
There are over 60 restaurants participating this year. The annual event is an opportunity for restaurants to both elevate their brand as well as help mitigate the impact COVID-19 has had on the industry.
On Tuesday, the Birmingham City Council approved an item for Shared Space Permits to allow restaurants to temporarily expand onto sidewalks and into parking spaces to enhance social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are focused on doing whatever we can to help Birmingham’s amazing restaurants continue to thrive, even during this public health crisis we are dealing with,” said Councilor Hunter Williams, chair of the Public Safety Committee. “Every year, Birmingham’s Restaurant Week is a great opportunity for business to get their name out there and celebrate the culinary scene that has helped put Birmingham on the map as a one of the country’s preeminent food cities.”
Social distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced at the event.
