COUNCIL PRESIDENT PARKER AND PRO TEM ALEXANDER ANNOUNCES 12 PARKS AND RECREATION CENTERS SLATED FOR CLUSRE WITH REMAIN OPEN

Following a series of meetings earlier this month in which 12 parks and recreation centers were placed on a potential closure list, Council President William Parker and Pro Tem Wardine Alexander have announced those sites will remain open three days a week.

Council President Parker and Pro Tem Alexander led the charge opposing the potential closures, said the Council will continue working with the Park Board as well community stakeholders to continue to provide recreational activities to residents in all of Birmingham’s 99 neighborhoods.

Details of the operating hours and programing at the rec centers will be voted on by the Park Board when they meet at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7.

Here is a list of the parks and rec centers that were on the closure list but will now have modified schedules:

· Roosevelt

· Wiggins

· Henry-Crompton

· Harrison

· Sandusky

· Hooper City

· Howze-Sanford

· North Birmingham

· Harriman

· Brownsville

· Inglenook

· Willowwood
