The Birmingham Park board has released a modified schedule for the 12 parks and recreation centers that were slated for closure.
Following a series of meetings last month in which 12 parks and recreation centers were placed on a potential closure list, Council President William Parker and Pro Tem Wardine Alexander have worked with the Park Board to modify schedules to keep them open to the public at least three days a week.
President Parker said the Council will continue working with the Park Board as well as community stakeholders to continue to provide recreational activities to residents in all of Birmingham’s 99 neighborhoods.
Details of the operating hours and programing at the rec centers will be voted on by the Park Board when they meet at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7.

“I’m happy to announce that we will be keeping these sites open to the public as we continue to work our way through this public health crisis,” President Parker said.
Council President Pro Tem Wardine Alexander, who had four parks and recreation centers in her district on the potential closure list, said she’s encouraged by the collective effort to keep them open.
