With several high-profile COVID-19 vaccines approaching the point of distribution in the United States, Council President William Parker is asking county and state health officials to give a briefing on distribution plans and answer other vaccine-related questions.
Parker says it’s important there is equity in the vaccine distribution, by ensuring that the African American community is able to receive the vaccine in locations that are accessible to the residents of all 99 neighborhoods.
Parker believes Legion Field could be among the sites that would serve as a primary distribution center for the vaccine, highlighting the success the site has experienced with daily COVID-19 testing throughout the pandemic.
“We want to make sure we’re working in lockstep with our partners at the state and local level to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to our residents,” said President Parker, “and we also need to develop a plan to educate our residents about the vaccine. We have to anticipate that some people may have concerns about taking it, once it is widely available.”
Parker plans to reveal more about a community engagement educational strategy for the residents in all 99 neighborhoods regarding the vaccine distribution.
