With Christmas right around the corner, Councilor Crystal Smitherman is working to provide food and gifts for residents in her district with two events next week.

On Monday, December 21st at Memorial Park Recreation Center, Councilor Smitherman will be partnering with Senator Rodger Smitherman, Arrington Funeral Home, and Christian Service Mission for a District 6 Christmas event.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Councilor Smitherman and her staff will be dressed as Santa’s helpers to pass out gifts to families of students who attend Washington K-8 and Hemphill Elementary School.

“It’s important that as we celebrate this holiday season that we do so in a safe and responsible way,” Smitherman said. “But also, to remember that this difficult year has brought many hardships for our neighbors and members of our community. I’d encourage everyone who is able to help in some way, either through volunteering or by donating to local organizations providing help to those in need.”

Councilor Smitherman’s office will also be hosting a hot Christmas dinner giveaway on Tuesday, December 22nd from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harrison Park Recreation Center. Anyone is welcome to come receive a free meal while supplies last.

Strict COVID-19 social-distancing guidelines will be followed at both events, by organizers and by those who attend.

Councilor Smitherman will have media availability at both events.
