Birmingham City Council President William Parker is inviting the media to Legion Field on Monday at noon to watch a demonstration of the Draganfly Varigard Drone technology. Parker is currently exploring ways in which the Park Board could deploy this state-of-the-art equipment in sanitizing Legion Field and other recreational facilities across the City in the fight against COVID-19.
Last month, Alabama State University President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., announced their school would be the first in the nation to utilize this cutting-edge drone technology to sanitize the school’s facilities.
“I’d like to applaud Dr. Ross and the ASU family in their effort in rolling out this new technology, one that has the potential to save lives,” President Parker said. “I look forward to working with Dr. Ross on expanding these efforts and securing this technology for Legion Field.”
The drone uses a new pathogen and virus sanitizer to spray on surfaces as it hovers throughout the stadium when it is unoccupied.
“As we continue to navigate our way in this new normal, we have to utilize new and innovative ways to keep our residents safe, while also making sure the City can continue to bring in revenue,” Parker said. “I think this technology can help accomplish those goals and I look forward to working with our local, state, and federal partners on securing CARES Act funding for this technology for Legion Field.”
