Council President William Parker will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting focusing on sports and COVID-19 tonight – Thursday, January 7th at 6 p.m.
The panelists will include Dr. David Hicks, with the Jefferson County Department of Health, Dr. Charles McClelland, SWAC Commissioner, and Bryan Hicks, Alabama A&M Athletic Director. The event will be moderated by Mary Beth Ford.
Some of the topics being discussed include how to maximize fan experiences during the ongoing public health crisis, safety protocols and the economic impact that sporting events can have as local economies continue to recover across the country.
“We’ve been focused on finding ways to safely bring sporting events back to Birmingham as recovery efforts continue following a year of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19,” President Parker said. “Tonight’s discussion will feature local experts who can help lay out a path forward and for members of the public to ask them questions.”
The meeting will be streamed to the Birmingham City Council’s Facebook page and participants can ask their questions in the comments. The virtual meeting starts at 6 p.m.
