On Wednesday, the Birmingham Park Board will be voting to approve measures that will allow for Legion Field to be utilized as a 24/7 COVID-19 vaccine distribution center.
Council President William Parker said he has been working with local leaders to open the door for additional vaccination clinics at community centers across Birmingham as well as the Botanical Gardens. President Parker has been working with health officials to develop a strategy for vaccination distribution, one that is equitable for communities being hit the hardest by COVID-19.
“We are currently experiencing a massive spike in the number of cases,” Parker said. “We have to take bold and swift action to not only make testing sites more accessible for residents, but also to distribute vaccines as quickly and as efficiently as possible. I believe Legion Field is the perfect location to accomplish these goals.”
The Birmingham Park Board meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. and will be conducted virtually.
