With area students out of school and many families seeking to find recreational activities, it’s no question that Birmingham’s eastern area Music and Movie Festival is where you should be. Each year this event has grown in attendance with crowds of more than 1,000 eager residents. As the event continues to grow, this fun-filled community program is now expanding from an annual anxiously awaited event to a summer series that is free and open to the general public.
“Wholesome, inexpensive activities are hard to find when you’re on a limited budget,” said Councilwoman Lashunda Scales, the event’s organizer. “With crime amongst our youth at its highest and a struggling economy, it is imperative that city leaders begin to engage local businesses and agencies to assist with providing quality education for our students and affordable alternative programs for families to participate,” said Councilor Scales.
The 2014 summer festival series include: APEX stage featuring live entertainment, movie presentation at sunset, water slides and a Birmingham Zoo exhibit. Residents are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, picnic baskets, blankets and a great attitude!
