Last night, one person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at W.C. Patton Park. Council President William Parker and community leaders are organizing a prayer vigil for this evening at 5:30 p.m.  Council President William Parker said these senseless acts of violence must stop.

“This is a very somber time for all of us in Birmingham,” President Parker said. “It’s hard to even grasp how something like this can happen during a time that families are celebrating a holiday in a park. This was an unimaginable tragedy and the Birmingham City Council is committed to working with the Mayor, law enforcement, Park Board, community leaders and local stakeholders to ensure that something like this never happens again.”

The vigil will be held at W.C. Patton Park (3969 14th Avenue N, Birmingham 35234) at 5:30 p.m. today and will include community leaders, members of the faith community and city leaders.
